About William

William Vergason (b. 2003) is an abstract expressionist based in Philadelphia, PA. Primarily working in oil on canvas, he creates intuitive and vibrant works that exist in worlds without recognizable images. When painting, he listens to the canvas, allowing it to guide his brushwork. He takes chances, while simultaneously giving acute attention to color, balance, and form. He describes his process as a conversation with the canvas. “Painting is such an intimate exercise–I develop a relationship with each piece. After I place a mark, I allow a moment for the work to digest it, and decide if it is correct. We go back and forth with discourse until we are both satisfied with the product.”
